Our story begins in 1983 when Jimmy and Connie Sink opened the first Discount Building Materials in Amory Mississippi. In 1994 Cliff, Jimmy and Connie’s son continued the family business and started Discount Building Materials in Oxford Mississippi. Meanwhile, In July 1993 Chris and Rachel married. After living in North Carolina they decided to move to Mississippi. In the fall of 1999 Chris went to work for Discount Building Materials in Oxford. He started out as a delivery driver, working the yard, loading customers, restocking lumber bins and stocking hardware shelves. Soon after Rachel began to work there as well, stickering hardware, checking customers and stocking shelves. As the store began to grow Cliff approached Chris and Rachel with an idea that the Mississippi delta was in need.

In 2001, from out of a soybean field, Discount Building Materials-Clarksdale was in the works and in February 2002 opened its doors to the Mississippi delta. Chris managed the location for over 2 decades. In 2024 the opportunity arose for Chris to be able to purchase the location and so “Duffie’s” was born. Chris and Rachel along with their two sons Brian and Travis pray to keep the tradition alive in the Mississippi delta by expanding on the platform that we have already established, fair prices, great customer service and loyalty to our friends of the Mississippi delta. We are more than just a hardware store, lumber yard, appliance center, sporting goods store …. We are family!
